Sexual Pleasure: The forgotten link in sexual and reproductive health and rights
In many cultures and communities talking about sexual pleasure is a taboo, and healthcare provision and services too often focus on the health risks and consequences of sexual behavior. Sexual pleasure is a key part of sexual decision making and overlooking it makes it difficult to get to the root of why people may be taking sexually risky decisions. Talking about and making links between sexual health, sexual rights and sexual pleasure enables people to access accurate information, services and support and moves us towards a focus on wellbeing and wellness rather than disease and illness thus recognizing the positive realities of sexuality.
The Global Advisory Board (GAB) for Sexual Health and Wellbeing has developed an online resource entitled:
Sexual Pleasure: The forgotten link in sexual and reproductive health and rights
This resource aims to enable healthcare providers and sexual health service providers to explore issues related to sexual pleasure, sexual rights and wellbeing, build knowledge, skills, understanding and gain confidence in providing sexual and reproductive health services, counselling and education.
